Beginning Monday, NDOT and Granite Construction will begin activities on the two-year project to widen and enhance sections of Pyramid Highway between Queen Way and Golden View Drive.
Traffic control preparations will occur for the first two weeks. Crews will be removing medians, installing best management practices (BMPs), and striping and setting up for the first traffic shift.
During the first two weeks, drivers can expect the following to occur:
Traffic reduced to a single lane in both NB and SB directions on Pyramid Highway during nighttime work
Nightly closures of turn pockets from EB McCarran Boulevard to NB Pyramid
Nightly closure of Queen Way to NB Pyramid. Follow detour to 4th Street and then to McCarran Boulevard
Daytime shoulder closures
SB lane closures will take place 8 p.m. - 5 a.m., while lane closures on NB Pyramid Highway will occur 9 p.m. - 7 a.m.
Traffic will be reduced to 45 MPH in the work zone for the duration of the project. For everyone's safety, please be patient and use caution while driving through the work zone.
Hours of Operation
Daytime working hours are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. - 7 p.m.
Nighttime working hours are Sunday nights to Friday mornings: NB work is 9 p.m. - 7 a.m. and SB work is 8 p.m. - 5 a.m.
Construction noise will be occurring during nighttime hours. Granite and NDOT will be working to monitor and minimize noise related impacts for residents as much as possible.
First traffic shift coming mid-May
Mid-May through November 2023, traffic will be shifted to the east side of Pyramid Highway for construction on the west side of the roadway from Queen Way to Los Altos Parkway. During this time commuters and residents can expect the following:
Reduced 11-foot wide lanes
Single lane nightly closures on SB Pyramid Highway
Marked pedestrian/bicycle route
Periodic overnight single lane closures on cross streets, such as Disc Drive and Los Altos Parkway
No access to BLM recreation area
To reduce impact to daytime commute traffic, all lanes will remain open during the day. While the majority of delays will be brief, drivers can anticipate travel delays of up to 30 minutes through the work zone. Plan ahead.
Project Features
Pyramid Highway will be widened from four to six lanes from Queen Way to Los Altos Parkway, and the existing four lanes will be reconstructed from Los Altos to Golden View Drive.
Other improvements include: bike lanes, curb and gutter, raised median, drainage infrastructure, a 10-foot shared use path, landscaping and aesthetic features, smart traffic signals, and decorative sound/screen walls.
