To be able to place the storm drain pipes alongside the highway, earthwork crews start by "clearing and grubbing" the area. Clearing is the removal of any vegetation from the surface while grubbing refers to the removal of roots that may be buried.
The drainage crew follows behind and begins excavating a large trench. The pipe is then placed and a layer of permeable soil is added before natural material is added back to cover the pipe.
Finally, the area is graded. Earthwork crews configure or shape the surface of the land to meet project specifications. Along the southbound lanes between Golden View Drive and Los Altos Parkway (where photos are taken), slopes will receive riprap, and a sidewalk, barrier rail and bike lane will be installed.
Traffic Control
Left turns are prohibited between Golden View Drive and Los Altos Parkway.
Did you know, two sets of solid double yellow lines are considered a barrier? Do not drive on or over this barrier, make a left turn, or make a U-turn across it. For added emphasis on this law and for the safety of all drivers, yellow traffic delineators have also been placed in the center of the barrier at Spring Ridge Drive and in front of the First Baptist Church. Help us maintain a safe work zone and obey traffic laws.
The following traffic control will take place through February 2024, weather dependent:
Disc Drive - Night of 2/18 and 2/19. Electrical work occurring between 8 p.m. and 7 a.m. One of the two left turn lanes from Disc Drive onto SB Pyramid Highway will be closed. The free-right turn remains closed during this time as well.
NB Pyramid Highway - Night of 2/18 and 2/19. Weather dependent, roadway restriping will occur between Queen Way and Golden View Drive between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m. Traffic will be intermittently reduced to a single lane around striping operations.
SB Pyramid Highway - Nightly 2/18-2/23. Traffic reduced to a single lane near Spring Ridge Drive between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. for drainage and possible utility work.
